Clint Bartley caught his first eastern black kingsnake at the age of six, and that sparked a love that never died.
Bartley Reptiles was formed in the early 2000s, still a hobby and a passion project in Clint’s spare time. Each year the project grew bigger. It started with a corner, then it became a room, and eventually the entire lower floor of the family home — plus a one-car garage — was taken over. The family was tolerant, if nothing else.
Bartley Reptiles built a reputation for service and quality. The passion for Asian rat snakes and black rat snake mutations exploded, and Clint became known as a leader in those arenas — black rat mutations especially, alongside several partnerships with his good friend Matt Most.
In 2022 it was time. Clint had worked for the same company for twenty years, but he wanted a change that would let him spend more time at home with his young children. It was more than that, though.
A 9,000 ft² facility was purchased and a 3,000 ft² showroom was created, with a lot of help from family and friends. Metazotics was born.
Thank you for taking the time to read through our journey. We hope you will walk along it with us, because it isn’t over.

Nationally, regionally and locally — and they ask different things of a website.
Top-quality captive-bred animals, chosen by the customer themselves with a click or a thumb. New animals added weekly.
With Clint at Metazotics full time, we vend far more shows than Bartley Reptiles ever could — face to face with the hobby, spreading knowledge on the less common species we work with.
A shop that will change, grow and adapt with the hobby. All are welcome, even to sit and simply be, surrounded by reptiles and people who love them.
The site is not another place to keep things current. It reads the collection and the catalogue directly, and rebuilds the moment either changes.
Animals, genetics, photos, prices and availability come from HerpSync. Supplies and merch come from the Square catalogue through it. When an animal is reserved or an item sells out, HerpSync sends a signed notification and the page rebuilds — typically within a minute. Nobody edits the website.
A concept, put together so there is something concrete to react to. Every photograph, animal, care sheet, show date, address and opening time on it is genuinely yours — taken from your own site. There is no stock imagery and no invented stock anywhere on this page.
Prices are left off deliberately rather than guessed. Two small additions to the HerpSync API — product categories and per-store stock — are needed before the shop half runs entirely through it; the animal half works today. Nothing here commits anyone to anything.
